Lucid Dream: Hits Me Like I’m Stoned / Try a Little Sunshine
Regal Crabomophone (Winkle 5)

Lucid Dream is a band from North-West England founded in 2008 and before this vinyl single they have two EP’s and two singles under their belt. This is their first appearance on Fruits de Mer’s sister label Regal Crabomophone that also releases new original music in addition to covers. Lucid Dream has been compared to bands like Spacemen 3, Suicide, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Byrds, Primal Scream and The Monkees, and I would like to add at least Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels and Wooden Shjips to the list. Their own composition ”Hits Me Like I’m Stoned” starts and ends with a more peaceful, hypnotic drone attitude, but in the middle they really rock out with true pounding so that your synapses just keep on banging. The singer’s a bit nasal voice is just perfect for the music and the guitar players have scraped together a big pile of effect pedals. This is great stuff and for example in Finland the Black Lizard guys and their fans will love it I’m sure! ”Try a Little Sunshine” that was originally released by Factory in 1969 on their 7” and presents the UK Freakbeat as its best and was an excellent pick to cover. Also this Lucid Dream’s version that is even more psychedelic and intense than the original sounds really good and lifts the listener high up in the air! This is amazing interpretation and I’m sure we will be hearing a lot about this band. Warmly recommended!
